ARC Probes are static, non-combat ARC units found scattered across the landscape. They resemble large missile-like projectiles or pods that have either crashed into the terrain or landed upright. According to in-game lore (Celeste), they are designed to scan the ground in search of Speranza, the underground colony. Unlike other ARC units, they do not move or shoot, but they are highly sought after for their valuable crafting materials that can be obtained without a firefight.
No Direct Attack: The Probe itself has no weapons and will not attack you.
Signal Broadcast: When you begin breaching a Probe, it emits a distress signal. While this doesn't guarantee an enemy spawn, the noise of the breach and the signal can attract nearby patrolling ARCs (like Roamers or Drones) or alert other players to your location.
Visual/Audio Cue: They emit a distinct "beeping" or "pinging" sound and often have black smoke rising from them, making them easy to spot from a distance but also easy for enemies to camp.
Breaching Mechanic: You must use your standard Raider Tool to breach the panels on the Probe.
Upright Variants: These have 3 breachable panels (one on each side). You can circle the probe and loot it three separate times for triple the rewards.
Crashed/Buried Variants: These are partially buried in the ground. Usually, only 1 panel is accessible/breachable.
Positioning Bug: If the "Breach" prompt is greyed out, you are likely standing at the wrong angle. Crouch or move slightly to the side of the panel until the prompt turns white.
Stealth Farming: Because they don't fight back, Probes are the safest way for solo players to farm "ARC" materials (like Motion Cores and Alloys) without risking combat with high-tier enemies like Rocketeers.
Quest Objective: They are a primary objective for the early-game quest "A Bad Feeling" given by Celeste.
Probes are excellent sources of ARC-specific crafting materials usually only found on dead enemies.
Loot Pool:
ARC Motion Core (Rare – Essential for crafting)
Destroy XP: 0 XP (You cannot "destroy" them, only loot them).
Looting XP: ~200 XP per breached panel.
Total Potential: 200 – 600 XP (depending on if it is a crashed or upright variant).
How do I find ARC Probes? Look for columns of black smoke on the horizon. This is the universal sign of a crashed Probe or Husk. You can also listen for a rhythmic "pinging" sonar sound as you get closer.
Why can't I interact with the Probe? This is a common issue. If the prompt is greyed out, try crouching or approaching the panel from a direct 90-degree angle. If it still doesn't work, the panel may have already been looted by another player (look for an open hatch).
Do Probes respawn? They do not respawn in the exact same spot during a match, but they are randomly distributed across the map at the start of every raid. Common locations include the forests near Water Treatment and the open fields around Plaza Rosa.
Can I destroy the Probe for loot? No. Shooting or blowing up the Probe does nothing. You must use the breaching interaction to get the loot.
